Reducing construction waste - INTO Concept's commitment to sustainable office space

Construction waste is surprisingly high - but it can be reduced through smart planning and responsible choices. INTO products show how sustainable materials and modular solutions can make office spaces both environmentally friendly and adaptable.

More construction waste than you think

The construction sector is one of the biggest producers of waste in the world. In the European Union, construction and demolition account for around 32 % of all waste, making it the largest single waste category by weight (EastCham Finland, 2023).

In Finland, around 13.2 million tonnes of waste was generated from construction and demolition in 2019, which accounted for 11.7 % of the country's total waste. While most of this was soil and dredging waste, up to 400 000 tonnes was wood, metal and other valuable construction materials (Statistics Finland, 2021).

It is noteworthy that only 48 % of this construction waste is recycled, compared to the EU target of 70 % (Yle, 2020). There is room for making things more sustainable - especially through smart design, modularity and responsible material choices.

INTO Concept's approach: smart and sustainable design

We want to reduce our environmental impact by providing sustainable office furniture and adaptable POD facilities. The cornerstones of our product design are:

  • Modularity minimises waste - Our products are made to last and adapt to different spaces and situations. Being able to adapt spaces without demolition saves both materials and time.
  • A ready-made implementation - The products are delivered in parts, but are designed for easy assembly and to minimise waste on site.
  • Sustainable material choices - We use almost exclusively recyclable or reusable materials - with the exception of glued carpet.

A sustainable choice: INTO POD rooms

Modular design and responsible materials can work together to reduce the environmental burden. Our POD are made of wooden frames, offer excellent acoustics and are easily movable or convertible - extending their lifetime and minimising waste.

  • Made from FSC-certified wood
  • Easy installation and little site waste
  • Fully adaptable, repairable and long-lasting

Nordic quality stands the test of time

All INTO the Nordic Silence products are designed in Finland by INTO's own design team and manufactured in the EU in cooperation with trusted partners. Our regional production model ensures high quality and ethical practices - while reducing emissions from transport and supporting the local economy.

Our product family, designed by Hanna Gullstén and Jari Inkinen, is based on Nordic nature and sustainable design. The result is minimalist, adaptable and acoustically functional furniture that enhances the functionality and comfort of workspaces.

Let's plan together for a more sustainable future

We pay attention to how products are designed, manufactured and used - in the most sustainable way possible. Our aim is to develop solutions that last over time and have as little impact on the environment as possible.
