Heino Group's new headquarters in the historic Voimala
The Voimala building, located in the Vallila Konepaja area of Helsinki, was given a new lease of life when the family business Heino Group was looking for a head office space that would provide a functional working environment and an inspiring venue for client events. The site has a long history and the building is known as part of the former VR Machine Shop, where trains were built and maintained for over 100 years. Completed in 1901, the Power Station originally served as an electricity, heat and compressed air plant for the Machine Shop.

The history of the building is still strongly reflected in the premises. Protected by The Finnish Heritage Agency, the building has been renovated into a modern, multi-purpose office, respecting the spirit of the original. The two-year project was completed in spring 2025. LECCO Oy, responsible for the design Interior designers Gullstén-Inkinen Oy and the supply of furniture and equipment Input Interior Oy.
Power plant hall - a valuable history in a modern working and event environment
The high and impressive Electric Power Hall and its furnishings were designed as a multi-purpose event space, adaptable to a variety of customer events, launches and parties. The upstairs meeting space is based on an old equipment stall, the legs of which were retained and around which new bar tables were built on the lower floor. The original bridge crane was left in place as part of the feel of the space to create an ambience.
The original flooring in the power plant hall had to be replaced due to contaminants, but it was done according to the old design, with individually drawn tile patterns and original defects. The colour scheme of the room is based on seven layers of paint found by the conservator, the shades of which also guided the choice of furniture.

The meeting areas in the open upper space were equipped with height-adjustable pine decks INTO TOP tables. Thanks to their lightweight but robust construction and adjustability, they adapt easily to different needs and support the various uses of the space. The kitchen area downstairs was also furnished with TOP tables to maintain the versatility and coherent look of the space.

In the same building, the 1930s control booth was restored to its original form. Today it serves as an intimate meeting room and a small leisure space. TOP pine tables were also chosen to complement the unique atmosphere of the space, with their functionality and materials.

A modern meeting space was built under the stairs, which blends seamlessly into the architecture of the building. The space POINT sofas provide additional seating space and TOP tables serve as practical calculation levels. The modularity of the sofas made it possible to create a tailor-made set for the space, and the shades chosen blend in with the original colour scheme of the building.

Boiler room - furniture solutions that support the use and look of the space
Heino's offices and conference rooms are located on the boiler room side. Upstairs, quiet retreats were designed for concentrated work. INTO POD 2- and POD 4 -rooms provide acoustic peace and visual privacy for calls, video conferencing and independent work. Pine veneer, modular in design and dimensioning Office PODs form a peaceful whole, and can be placed together seamlessly.

The shared work and break areas on the ground floor were designed to be flexible and relaxed yet efficient. POINT sofas and TOP tables were chosen for these areas, as they support collaboration and complement the furniture ensemble across the different floors of the building.
An office that tells a story
Heino Group's goal was to create a headquarters where history and modernity meet in harmony, creating an inspiring and functional working environment. The history of the building was a key starting point in the design of the space and furniture solutions, guiding the design.
INTO Concept furniture made it possible to create an ensemble that seamlessly combines functionality, ergonomics and aesthetics. Each space was equipped with carefully selected furniture that was fit for purpose, and the result was a coherent, finished and functional working environment.
”We have been very happy with the solutions. The products have worked as intended and there has been no specific feedback, which is a sign of satisfaction. They look good, share space and provide excellent opportunities for more relaxed working and confidential discussions.”, says Eva Heino, Communications Manager at Heino Group.
The power plant is not just an office space. It is part of the Heino Group's story and at the same time a living part of Helsinki's industrial history.
