Background
Valmet is a global technology company that provides process technologies, automation solutions and services to the pulp, paper and energy industries, among others. The company has a long history of industrial innovation and a strong position in international markets.
When several of Valmet’s offices were merged into a single new multi-space office in Tikkurila, there was a need to create a modern, efficient and collaborative working environment. Around 850 people work in the new premises, which cover an area of 13,500 m².
The interior design and furnishing was done by interior design office Gullstén-Inkinen Oy.
Challenge
The aim of Valmet’s new multi-purpose office was to support changing ways of working and optimise the use of space as remote working becomes more widespread. The design also focused on facilitating the transfer of tacit knowledge and strengthening a sense of community.
The spaces were designed to cater for a wide range of working needs: concentration, meetings, teamwork, relaxed socialising and quieter conversations. In particular, the aim was to create a flexible environment for teamwork in the staff canteen outside of lunchtime.
Solution
To support these objectives, furniture from the INTO the Nordic Silence product range was selected POD ROLL meeting rooms, TOP tables and POINT sofas.
The furniture was placed in the staff canteen, the floor cafés, the meeting rooms and the waiting areas. The solutions supported the adaptability, comfort and versatility of the spaces.
The staff canteen was fitted with POD ROLL meeting rooms and POINT sofas, which were customised to match Valmet’s brand identity. This enabled the canteen to function as a flexible space for teamwork and meetings outside of lunchtime as well.
TOP tables and POINT sofas were used in the floor cafés. Each floor café had its own theme, and the aim was to encourage staff to move between floors and meet colleagues from different teams.

Valmet’s new multi-purpose office offers an inspiring and practical working environment, where the spaces provide versatile support for different ways of working. They facilitate concentration, quiet discussions, collaboration and informal get-togethers.
INTO Concept’s versatile furniture, which can be tailored to the customer’s needs, was an integral part of the overall design, combining functionality, comfort and Valmet’s brand identity.
User feedback confirms that the premises and furnishings serve their purpose extremely well:
"The sofas' sturdy seat makes them comfortable to sit on, they are ideal for wall hanging and fit in well with the rest of the interior."
"The POD ROLL meeting rooms offer comfortable privacy amidst the hustle and bustle of a staff restaurant. They provide visual privacy and effectively absorb noise from the line. I've found myself coming to sit in them often."
